Feeling good

Posted by Adrenalynn on 24 January 2011

Today is apparently the suckiest day of the year. On my way to work this morning I listened to a radio reporter stick her microphone in unsuspecting people’s faces (insert joke here), asking them why they looked so blue. The answers were all what you’d suspect: “I’m in a hurry”; “I’m tired”; “It’s Monday morning”; “Get out of my way, you stupid woman”; and so on. Now, I can empathize with the fact that Monday mornings aren’t super happy fun time when you don’t have some chatty woman up your behind asking stupid questions. But I’m a firm believer in our mind’s awesome power to change our whole outlook based solely on what we tell it to think.

So I did a little experiment this morning at my desk. I got my Monday morning feelgood tune going on my headset, popped my knuckles, and tweeted the following:

@adrenalynn_no It’s Monday! Say it with me: Moooooooooooooonda-haay! Now do a little happy dance. That’s it! Aaaand smile! Feel that? It’s Monday, baby!

I then broke into my trademark happy dance complete with subsequent tounge-out-of-mouth smile, and booya! Super happy fun time Monday! It really was that easy. So I hereby give you my Monday morning feelgood tune. Use it wisely. And remember: it works on Wednesdays too!

Ice Ice Baby

Posted by Adrenalynn on 16 January 2011

The weather is big news all over the planet these days. Actually, it’s always been big news. It rained for a mere 40 days a few thousand years ago and not only did it get mentioned in the Bible, we still talk about that little shower. I think our fixation on the weather derives from our compulsion to find a common ground. Well, this winter we certainly found it. In fact, we’ve been fed with conversation material for months now.

I won’t lie to you, I’ve been there. I’ve bitched about the snow and rain as much as the next girl. But today, I reached a new low and documented the catastrophe that was the road outside our house as we dared to venture outdoors. Not even my bad-ass all-wheel drive *cough* minivan *cough* was able to conquer the icy madness, so we did this instead:

As you can tell by my smooth camera action, my ladylike elegance was fully intact as I strolled up that hill. I’ve thought about migrating to a warmer country, but frankly, they’re clearly not having the best weather right now either. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I want my rain back.

Haaaaaaaaaaappy New Year!

Posted by Adrenalynn on 2 January 2011

How was your Christmas? Did it snow? Did you get to relax and unwind? Did you score any good gifts?

This Christmas we all finally got to do something together as a family. I have to tell you though, there’s something about projectile vomiting that I just can’t stomach. As a result I spent the better part of Christmas either holding a sick child or zoned out on the couch myself. It’s at times like this your perspective changes and you realize what’s really important. Like making it through the day without dropping dead. Or getting the laptop away from any rogue bodily fluids. Sadly, we failed on the latter. Thankfully it was my husband’s laptop and not mine.

You also realize what doesn’t matter. Like going outside. Or showering. Which is why this came in really handy:

Happy new year!

I hope the year 2011 will rock your socks off!

Merry December!

Posted by Adrenalynn on 1 December 2010

Today is December 1st! Feel that? That’s the Christmas spirit sneaking up on you! Feels good, doesn’t it? I love me some Christmas. I love the food, the music, the decorations, even the cold (outside, that is). And I love the parties. I’ve got one down and three to go before Christmas has even started, and you know I’m in my element when I can dress up and put on some heels.

I’ve had something of a mullet situation going on lately, but the awesome SuperMorten and his Magic Hands™ took care of that little situation just in time. Behold the hideousness before his intervention (turn away now if you’ve got a weak stomach, and please ask your children to leave the room):

And the after-photo:

Yes, I strategically chose an after-photo where I’ve actually showered and put on make-up. That’s how it’s done, just ask the pros.

This year I’m even on time with (most of) my Christmas-y chores, which included staying up late last night and wrapping 48 gifts for the children’s advent calendars. Just call me Supermom. This photo was taken just before both strings broke and all the gifts plummeted to the ground. Thankfully there were no casualties.

I hope you’ll have a wonderful holiday, full of laughter and love!

My thoughts on TV, let me tell you them

Posted by Adrenalynn on 12 November 2010

Do you ever wonder what sort of people actually watch music video channels on TV (like MTV, only not MTV, because they have less music videos and more other stupid stuff for stupid people who like stupid stuff) for extended periods of time? I do. I wonder. Are they bored? Do they find watching half-naked people rubbing against other half-naked people or inanimate objects interesting? Do they simply love the generic music? Until recently I had yet to witness a person watching a TV channel like this for longer than it takes to flip to the next one, but I’ve made something of a discovery in my very own neighborhood. In the past few weeks I’ve taken to peeking into one of my neighbors’ windows as I pass his house on my way home. I know it’s not very nice, but then again I can’t really see that much – apart from his flatscreen. And that’s what has me all excited. This man watches music videos all the time. I’ve never seen anything but half-naked booty-rubbing pretty people on that TV (I think that came out differently than I intended) since I became a peeping Tom accidentally started noticing what he watches.

My obsession with what other people watch on TV grew slightly bigger this week when I discovered that we recently got two new channels here in Nowhere Norway; Bliss and Max. You may have already guessed that the former is aimed at women, while the latter is for men. So I switched on my TV the other night, because I thought – I really thought – that a TV channel just for women was a great idea. I mean, imagine the possibilities! Hours upon hours of studly men, romantic comedies, quality TV series (featuring studly men of course) and, you know, other stuff that interests women. Like more studly men. Bliss, indeed! But my hopes were soon shattered. It turns out this so-called female friendly TV channel is more of a stupid-friendly TV channel. I could almost feel my IQ dropping by the minute as I discovered that their shows include the likes of  Keeping up with the Kardashians and Melrose Place.

I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I immediately grabbed my remote and flipped over to Max, where I got my dose of both studly men and quality TV shows. And this has me somewhat outraged. Who are these people who think women are interested in trashy reality TV, made-for-TV movies and soaps from the nineties? Actually, I do know who they are. Men. Well, you can go stick it. And in the meantime I’ll be over here watching my new favorite TV channel, thankyouverymuch.

Photo: googled. Yes, I googled Keeping up with the Kardashians.

The readership has spoken! (Video)

Posted by Adrenalynn on 15 October 2010

All ten of my loyal readers voted in the poll on whether or not I should videoblog! I am completely overwhelmed by the response from you, o faithful readership. However, here seems to be a tie between those of you who want me to start filming myself and those who want a sandwich.  I’m going to go ahead and assume that you were simply hungry and could not think straight, because this shouldn’t be a difficult decision. I therefore present my very first vlog (yes, I’m down with the lingo already)!

This video is my entry for SuperNote 2010, which you can read all about here. I’m on Team Nerd (no surprises there).

I apologize in advance for subjecting you to my crazy (and over one minute of “aaaaah”).

Things that need to be said, little creatures and happy moments

Posted by Adrenalynn on 5 October 2010

We were at McDonald’s the other day for a lovely family dinner. No, of course we don’t usually eat at McDonald’s. I’m pretty sure it’s been at least a week since last time. I think. Before we left I snapped this photo of the wall, much to my husband’s embarrassment. But I couldn’t help myself, and he’s pretty much used to me behaving strangely in public anyway. (Side note: I just wrote pubic. That’s a crucial letter if I ever saw one!)

The first thing that annoys me about this picture is the fact that McDonald’s clearly don’t own a calendar. It’s October, people. Get with the program. And second; the people in this photo have most likely never eaten a french fry in their lives. I’m willing to bet good money that the average person eating at McDonald’s might not want to get their Big Mac with a side of Guilt or a Low Self Esteem Special.

A few weeks ago we decided to do something outdoors after work for a change and spent a few precious minutes by a small lake not too far from where we live. We butchered bedtime, but it was all worth it. There was a light drizzle in the air and all these little frogs came out to play, to my eldest son’s delight. For the record, I did not touch the little creeps.

I love rainbows. Somehow they can make the rainiest of days seem brighter – probably because they actually require a little sun to do their magic. This one made my day.

What makes your day?

Three surprisingly interesting little pieces of randomness of if I may say so myself

Posted by Adrenalynn on 6 September 2010

1. Do you remember the parking lot photo (hint: look at the number 6)?

Well, they fixed it! I can only assume that this is a direct result of my previous post. Here’s the result:

2. Today as I was driving home I saw a young woman in a beautiful white dress running along the sidewalk in the middle of nowhere. Barefoot. I had barely parked my car at home when I saw a man run across the road to the bus stop carrying a full glass of water. I don’t even know.

3. I cut my hair. Before you ask: yes, that is another bathroom photo.

That is all.

Stuff I found in my washing machine yesterday

Posted by Adrenalynn on 3 September 2010

My son is a collector. Yes, I know all kids put stuff in their pockets, but mine borders on klepto. Mostly I accidentally discover what he’s had in his pockets that day when I pick up his pants and find my floor suddenly covered in four handfuls of sand, nails, rocks, or all of the above, but other times I find stuff like this in the washing machine after I’ve spent the evening listening to a slightly noisier spin cycle:

No, not all of those are ours. I don’t even know.
