Looking at boats

The kids wanted to go see the boats yesterday, so we did.
I wonder if this boat really is from Kingstown? That’s far, far away!
And then I just had to snap a photo of one of the dozens of trucks that drove by, because I’m astounded by the ridiculousness of driving around transporting solid water.

Hi Heather; don’t get me started on those trucks loaded with snow! It makes me crazy to think about all those resources being used to do something as meaningless as this. In short; there is nowhere to put all the snow that they remove from our roads, so they load it onto these trucks and drive it… somewhere. I bet there’s a huge snow mountain outside of the city somewhere!
Oh, I see. So you get all the snow delivered by truck? Here in the UK it falls from the clouds. We find it leaves less of a carbon footprint than using trucks. :p

This is going to sound implausible, but those photos got me all verklempt and teary-eyed, especially when I clicked on the link to see all those brightly colored buildings in a row. WOW!! What a beautiful town! It looks pretty now. I bet it is just heaven in spring, summer and fall.

Oh how I love boats like that! Only place near here we can connect with them (or even get on board) is the Royal Naval Dockyards in Plymouth, home of the Victory et al.

Hi Dad Who Writes; I feel so fortunate to have grown up very close to the ocean, and though I’ve moved to the city I’m so glad to still be almost surrounded by water. I’m definitely a water -and boat- person!
I wish someone here would make everyone paint their house a different colour… mind you, they’ve probably had their hands full stopping people from driving around with snow in the boot of their car.

Hi 1 Husband, 2 Kids! I love those houses. They are packed with history and are just such a symbol of this town. And now I just laughed out loud at the thought of people driving around with snow in the boot of their car!
Thank you for the pictures. Those sailing ships are pretty amazing – we live in the States about 5 hours from Savannah, Georgia. The last time we were there – there was a big sailing vessel the Peruvian Navy had sailed up from South America – it was probably 85 or more meters long. They were allowing visitors to tour the ship. We go to Orlando, Florida fairly frequently and they have an authentic Viking sailing ship in the Norway pavilion at EPCOT at Disney World- they have a pretty cool boat ride there that takes you to a replica of a Norwegian fishing village.
Hi Jean; thanks for visiting! I had no idea there was a Norway pavilion at EPCOT, how cool is that! I love going to museums to look at Viking ships and old settlements. It’s like walking through history! I feel very lucky live in a town that has such a rich heritage.
