Random thoughts about life and jeans buttons

Posted by Adrenalynn on 18 February 2010

Last Friday after eating cake for lunch I sat down at my desk and heard a strange little pop! as the button on my skirt broke free and shot across the floor. And then since the skirt was already done for, I went and got another piece. The following day, the zipper in my favorite skinny jeans burst open and broke for no reason at all. I’m blaming my washer for this.

My youngest child is at the stage where he’s started running everywhere instead of walking, while his older brother is focused on walking as slowly as he possibly can, and preferably also coming to a full stop every few paces for a little break. And I’m over here going crazy.

We drove to a driving range near our house last weekend to play in the snow with the kids, and had a fantastic time. We were the first ones there, but we weren’t alone for long. Quite a few people came by on skis; some had backpacks and kids and dogs, some were alone. Some skied the few hundred meters across the field and stopped there to eat their lunches, some disappeared into the forest. At one point I even saw one father pushing his baby in a stroller around the snowy field. There were all kinds of parents there; the mother who sat on the sled with her toddler down the hill and dragged him back up afterward to do the same over and over again; the dad in jeans who mostly had his hands in his pockets; the father who thought we had it coming when his son almost crashed into my almost two year old little boy and made him fall face down in the snow because he happened to be in the way. That same man also harshly told his other son, who was learning how to snowboard that he needed to suck it up and just throw himself down the hill already, that’s the only way you’ll learn.

Check out this awesome necklace that my fabulous coworker gave me for Christmas (Hand! Made!). Also photographed in the restroom, because that’s where I go to take photos, as you know. Yes, that is one of those iTelephones I’m desperately trying to hold steady while using the worthless built-in camera. Yes, it’s mine. Yes, i swore I’d never go anywhere near that abomination, but I finally caved. And I’m not impressed. I know all you die-hard fans will hate me with a passion for ever and ever for saying this; but seriously. Not impressed.

I am, however, very pleased with finally being able to read books on my phone. You see, I’ve been wanting an e-book reader for a very, very long time. But 1. I’m not made of money; and 2. The good ones aren’t for sale in my remote little corner of the world. So in the meantime I’m making due with my good-for-nothing iTelephone, which actually kinda works. So far I’ve been reading the Brontës, which I’ve been wanting to do forever. Oh, and about fortysomething *cough* romance novels. Yes, I’m a sucker for all that heart-fluttering, romantic sappyness. Plus, Harlequin is giving away free e-books these days, and you know how I love free stuff. So while I’m saving up for my Nook I’m using every bathroom and coffee break to the fullest. I’ll be the one with the dreamy eyes.
