The Gallery: Sittin’ on top of the world
Posted by Adrenalynn on 5 May 2010
The theme for this week’s The Gallery by the lovely ms. Sticky Fingers is The World Around Us. She’s clever, isn’t she? I’ve decided to show off my own little part of the world, because there’s no place like home, people.
We had the pleasure of having my sister in law and her boyfriend stay with us for several days a couple of weeks ago. He’s never been to this country before, so we thought we’d show him what western Norway is all about and take him for a drive to Lærdal. Not only is Lærdal hours away, those hours are mostly spent driving through endless tunnels. Lærdalstunnelen is the longest one, and because it’s 24,5 km long there are three quite beautifully lit spaces within the tunnel to make the drive less monotonous.
After having a shouting contest in the tunnel to hear the fabulous echo, we took a stroll at the Aurland Lookout. The view is absolutely breathtaking, and the crappy camera on my iTelephone does not do it justice. Standing up against that glass wall is also horribly scary.
Do click on the photos to make them larger. And then go over to Tara’s and check out the other fabulous entries from around the world!
Also, before I forget: the song from my last post was Stand a Little Rain by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Oh, you’ve never heard of it? Thought so. How about the title for this post? Any easier?

That looks amazing, my friends have just visited Norway and said now breathtaking it is. Must get there some day.
Hi MummyMatters; glad to hear they liked it! Norway is a crazy expensive country, but I hear it's worth it

Absolutely stunning views! What a gorgeous place
Hi Livi, it really is! My husband and I actually spent our honeymoon at a hotel there, and though we didn't actually spend a lot of time outdoors *cough* it was pretty fantastic to be surrounded by those mountains for a week

Hey Lynn,
Okay – that glass wall would do it for me too (terrify me). If there is one fear I have, it's heights! And….yep, this sure looks like it qualifies…
The views are incredible! And that tunnel – the echoes (echoes echoes echoes) seem to have carried over to here (here here here).
You really do love my humor, don't you!!!
Lance! I have no words to express how much I truly adore your humor *cough*. I'm not afraid of heights, and this still freaked me out! Shudder. But the view is so worth it.
I wish, I could visit that place too, but I have phobia on long tunnels, I really don't want to pass by those. But I would definitely love to visit Norway!
Hi! Unfortunately, tunnels are a necessary evil (?) over here!

I had the chance to go to Norway with work many years ago and then only for a short visit. Would be lovely to go back
Hi Moiderer! I had to go visit your blog to find out what that means
I'm kinda floored by the fact that you had to go to Norway for work! We don't exactly live in the center of the Universe
Wow-beautiful. Another place to put on my must visit list.
Hi; yes, come visit!
Oh wow. Those views are just amazing. There is indeed no place like home – thanks so much for joining in x
Hi Tara; thank you for making such a fun place for us all to meet and share our lives
You are truly amazing!
I love the thought of you and your family shouting in the tunnel. My dad used to honk his horn in tunnels (to our delight) if no other cars were in there.
Awesome photos.
Hi Lynn; I love to do stuff like this with the kids (um, and without them), both because I refuse to grow up and because I think it's good for them to see us adults acting silly sometimes!
Hi Adrenalynn!
This submit is a test, because for whatever reason yesterday my comment did not post.
Yay, I see it did post. not sure what happened yesterday. But it looks like I'm back in here, and that's a happy feeling.
That view is just unbelievable. I know you say "just with iPhone", but it still gets across the absolutely stunning site very well. Ahh, it must be thrilling to see that.
I'm with Lance on the fear of heights, but I think I could put it aside to see all that grandeur!
xo
Hi Jannie! My favorite person in the blog world! I looked for your comment in my spam folder, but it was nowhere to be found! I’m glad you finally made it
The iPhone keeps surprising me with the quality of photos taken outside, they’re actually better then indoor photos. That view alone is reason enough to drive the 2+ hours and back – and face that height
