5 things that make me feel good
Posted by Adrenalynn on 1 March 2011
I had my birthday this weekend (yes, I’m still in my twenties and that’s all you need to know), and what better gift to give myself than a chance to write about my favorite subect – me? I know, it’s a gift for you too. The lovely ladies Jayne at Mum’s the Word and Becky at Lakes Single Mum tagged me for this meme that was started by Scottish Mum, and it provides the perfect opportunity for a little me-time.
The rules are as follows:
What you cannot choose. The Rules are Simple:
We all know that blogging / facebook, & or twitter is in our arena of what we like to do, so I am going to rule them out as one of the 5 that you can post about. They really are not very girly. Likewise, phones, computers, ipads are all out of the running.I am challenging myself to this, as I am really not a girly girly type of person, and I want to find that within myself. It’s not all about power suits, filofaxes, ipads and designer phones.
If you want to pass this along, pick bloggers that you want to find out more about, and challenge them to write up their 5 secret passions that make them feel good. The idea is to lift our spirits this week. The fact that there is a linky added, just makes it all the more worthwhile in doing.
Aaand here are my 5 things:
1. Reading
I’m a total book nerd. I like to curl up with a book (preferably in the bathroom) and lose track of time. My reading list ranges from nonfiction and self improvement books to YA and classic novels, and I usually read 4-5 books at a time. I have a book in every room, and I always keep one or two in my bag so I can catch a few words when I have a minute. I never do, though; that’s probably why they keep accumulating.
2. Getting a haircut
I used to hate going to the hairdresser until I was introduced to SuperMorten and his Magic Hands™. That man certainly knows his way around a pair of scissors. I went to see him again recently, and I was not dissapointed. Allow me to show you a little before, during and after:
If you’re wondering if these are bathroom photos, you’d be correct! Have you missed them? I aim to please.
3. China
No, not that China, the other one. I have a love for browsing second-hand shops looking for old fashioned china. I’m slowly putting together a little mismatched collection – OK, very slowly; I have two cups and plates so far. But the joy is in the hunt!
4. Shoes and dresses
I have a serious and embarrassing addiction to shoes and dresses. I have enough of both to last me a couple of decades, but I still can’t help spending hours upon hours buying browsing for more. Thankfully, there’s never an inappropriate time to wear a dress and a nice pair of heels, right?
5. Hugs
Yes, I’m a hugger. I don’t care if it makes people uncomfortable, I’ll get right in there and hug the crap out of anything and anyone I’ve met once or passed on the street. I especially like exuberant hugs, but prefer them without any air-kissing. My favorite kinds of hugs are those from my children, naturally. Nothing disarms a situation like an unexpected hug from the child you were about to discipline. They learn quickly, don’t they?
I can’t think of any bloggers that may be interested in doing this meme that haven’t already, so I won’t tag anyone this time around. But please feel free to snatch this one up, and be sure to tell me about it in the comments and add your post to the linky over at Scottish Mum‘s.
Even if you don’t write your own post, please do tell me about what makes you feel good!
I you enjoyed this post, please consider sharing it or subscribing via RSS or by e-mail to receive free updates. And leave a comment while you're at it. Thank you!

Books are the one luxury in life I can’t do without! Good job we have a fab library in Kendal but whenever I can spare some money I love buying new books of my own…
Great 5
Hi Becky; I LOVE libraries. I can spend hours there, given the chance!
I have such great stuff in my place that it makes me feel
happy every time I walk in the door. Much of it belonged to
my grandparents.
And books – oh the books. I have many and stacks that are
waiting to be read.
p.s. I’m a hugger, too.
Hi Lynn; yes, i’ve seen the photos of some of your lovely things! You are truly lucky
I thought you might be a hugger too!
What an interesting person you are!
I love books too! (surprise surprise) Actual books. It’s something wonderful about sitting down with a good book and just forgetting about this world for a little while.
Btw, your hair look gorgeous, as usual:)
Hi sis
Thank you! We do share a love of books! I think we also like the same kinds of books, if I’m not mistaken
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS!!!!
Hey, I’m not a hugger. I much prefer a firm handshake,
but for you, I’ll make an exception.
I’m pleased to see you’ve added to the range of things you
do in the bathroom. Photography AND reading!
Awesome Dave; thank you so much for coming by!! I think about you
I think I might take you up on that exception! There are no limits to what one can do in the bathroom, mark my words. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Love the haircut! I just got a new do myself over the weekend, which is what led to the new photos.
Thank you, Kristi! Your hair looks awesome, it really suits you!
I wish I could rock a short ‘do! And that reminds me…I’m totally due for a haircut!
It sounds like we read the same multi-book way.
Getting a hair-cut is how I renew. It’s like a fresh start.
Hi JD! I Hope you’ve had a nice weekend! I do imagine you read a lot of books! Sometimes I feel I lose continuity when I skip from book to book like that, but I can’t seem to do anything about it. Plus, I feel guilty if I reed too much fiction – I guess I need to justify my reading a little:)
Hello, This a brilliant blog. I am glad to have happened upon it from my search on yahoo. I think I’ll come back soon!
